Dr. Eric Velazquez, an esteemed bariatric surgeon, has been making remarkable strides since joining the Longstreet Clinic in October of 2021. In addition to his role at the clinic, he has taken up the position of Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Northside Hospital Duluth. Dr. Velazquez’s exceptional expertise and contributions have garnered attention, earning him a prominent feature in Atlanta Magazine’s prestigious Top Doctors 2023 edition, where he was even chosen for the cover.

Originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Dr. Velazquez completed his Medical School education at the Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo. He then pursued further training, including a General Surgery Residency at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center in New York City and a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Fellowship at the distinguished New York Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Westchester Medical Center.

With over a decade of experience serving the bariatric patient population, Dr. Velazquez is driven to contribute to the eradication of obesity. Throughout his career, he has assumed various leadership positions, most recently serving as the Chief of Division for Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Temple University Hospital and Chief of Surgery at Temple University Hospital-Jeanes Campus. Along his journey, Dr. Velazquez has also played a vital role in instructing, coaching, and mentoring numerous medical and surgical residents. He actively participates in regional and national committees, including the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

As a board-certified surgeon and fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, Dr. Velazquez has consistently been recognized for his excellence. He has been honored as one of Philadelphia Magazine’s Top Doctors from 2017 to 2021. His clinical interests span various areas, including bariatric surgery, robotic surgery, hiatal hernias, reflux disease, inguinal hernias, abdominal wall reconstruction, and minimally invasive surgery.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Velazquez enjoys engaging in outdoor activities during his free time. He is an avid mountain biker and kayaker, and he relishes opportunities to travel and spend quality time with his family. Additionally, he actively participates in the Jeep Community and finds joy in off-roading adventures with his loved ones. Dr. Velazquez is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, enabling him to provide comprehensive care to patients from diverse backgrounds.
